When you are working, you may find that you have limited choices as to what you can eat for lunch. If you only have access to fast food restaurants or other limited menus, it would be best if you could prepare your own food to take with you. Here are some simple ways you can make sure you are ready for your next lunch break!

  • Have the right equipment. Whether you prefer a brown bag or tupperware, be sure to have what you need to carry your food with you.
  • Plan ahead! If you wait until morning to make your lunch, you may feel rushed. Make a plan the night before or better yet, always plan to make leftovers at dinner so you can take them with you to work.
  • Have a backup plan. Keep foods at work you can eat at lunch just in case. If you have access to a refrigerator, keep produce and/or sandwich fixings at work. If not, try keeping plain oatmeal packets, nuts, or low-sodium, vegetable based soups at your desk.
  • Don’t forget to be social! Try stepping away from your desk and connecting with a co-worker at lunch. If you are working and eating, it will be difficult to stay mindful of your eating pattern. You can even eat with someone who shares similar health goals!
