Food Pushers - Yup Its The Holidays!

What is it about the holidays that makes people want to press food on anyone that crosses their path? Everywhere you turn there is someone pushing a slice of pie or fudge or their Aunt Zelda’s famous stuffing. And why is it that at the holidays a simple “no thanks” isn’t going to make them stop? Here are three of the most irksome Holiday saboteurs:

  • The Pusher - He/she is going to continue to push that food on you no matter what. You say “no", he says "just a little.”; you say “no”, she says "you have to at least try a taste". Sometimes you give in just to get them to stop.
  • The Sabotager - They hear you are making healthy changes and suddenly the crystal ball is in their hands - “oh you’ll never be able to do that during the holidays.” “You won’t have lost a single pound come January." Sigh.
  • The Critic- No matter what you are trying, whether a named plan (i.e.,Paleo) or simply making a few changes to your lifestyle, this person has heard it all and feels compelled to tell you about his neighbor, aunt, cousin, person in the checkout line who tried it and then offer a critique: “it was a complete flop”. Double Sigh!

Don’t let these negative people put you off your game. Come prepared for each type and have a firm, but polite way of saying “move it along, buddy!” Practice a few phrases in the mirror so that the delivery it just right. They will be the best gift you give yourself this holiday season!
