Healthy Halloween Alternatives
Halloween is a ghoulish good time for parents who enjoy watching their kids get dressed up and tackle neighborhood streets while ‘trick’ or ‘treating’ as if they were running their first marathon!
But the other side to Halloween is the candy. Sugar filled bags and sugar filled kids can be enough to give both kids and parents alike a terrible headache!
As parents what can you do to make Halloween a little less sweet, a little more healthy and avoid future issues with sugar?
Healthy alternatives can often be found Whole Foods, Trader Joes or you local health food store: Here are some options:
- Yum-Earth Naturals
- Panda black and red licorice
- Homemade lollipops, sour beans, gummy bears and fruit snacks
- Surf Sweets gummies
- Justin’s Peanut Butter Cups and other varieties.
- Mini 70-85% chocolate bars from your local Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods store or health food store. Quality dark chocolate has less added sugar, high fructose corn syrup and trans fats.
Connect with your neighbors and initiate the change in your neighborhood traditions by giving your neighbors information on how they can contribute to a healthy neighborhood Halloween!
